1960年代後期（1968～69年）にベトナムへ駐留していた米兵がオーダーし、アメリカへ持ち帰った一着。マップ柄が主流のベトジャンにおいて、このドラゴンの刺繍は非常に希少である。龍柄のヴィンテージはいくつか確認されているが、これほどカラフルで迫力のある刺繍は他に類を見ない。背中の龍も袖の龍も多色の色糸を駆使して描写されており、当時も高い技術を持つ職人が手掛けていたことが窺える。左胸の「福」の文字は通常よりもやや小さいが、2色の色糸を使いヴィンテージに準じたバランスで再現している。

VIETNAM JACKET

戦後の日本で誕生したスカジャン同様、1960年代から1970年代のベトナム戦争時に生まれたスーベニアジャケットが、通称ベトジャン。コットンツイル、もしくはカモフラージュ柄のポンチョライナーの2種類の生地が主に使われ、マットな太めの色糸で絵柄が刺繍されている。

【 Lot No. TT15879 / Late 1960s Style Cotton Vietnam Jacket “DRAGON” 】

This jacket was custom-ordered by a U.S. serviceman stationed in Vietnam in the late 1960s (1968–69) and later brought back to the United States. While map designs are the most common among Vietnam jackets, this dragon embroidery is extremely rare. Several vintage dragon examples exist, but few display such colorful and powerful embroidery. Both the dragon on the back and the sleeves are rendered using multiple thread colors, suggesting the work of a highly skilled tailor of the time. The “Fuku (Good Fortune)” character on the left chest is slightly smaller than usual and reproduced with two-tone thread in a well-balanced vintage-accurate style.

VIETNAM JACKET

Like the Sukajan souvenir jackets born in postwar Japan, the Vietnam jacket—commonly called “Viet-Jan”—originated during the Vietnam War from the 1960s to the 1970s. Typically made from cotton twill or camouflage poncho liner fabric, the designs are embroidered using thick, matte threads characteristic of the era.
