世界初、フロントワイド形状のスプーン「BUX」

2003年6月。新たな商品を開発するにあたって我々は大勝負を掛けた。スプーンの基本形状はおおまかに言えば3種類。「幅広・細身・への字」である。新カテゴリーの創造を目指すことなく、従来品の模倣を続けるのか。テールワイドの従来タイプなら冒険する必要もなく、ある意味安易に叩くことは可能だが、他メーカーの中に埋没し「ウチは違う！」と声高に叫ぶことは不可能になる。そして「フロントワイド」。社運を賭けた決断であった。そうして作り上げたのがネイティブ用BUX。世界初のフロントワイドスプーンがこのシリーズである。

BUX: The World’s First Front-Wide Spoon

In June 2003, we made a bold move in developing a completely new product. Spoon designs can generally be divided into three basic shapes: wide, slim, and bent.

Would we simply continue imitating existing products without attempting to create a new category? A conventional tail-wide design would have been the safer choice and relatively easy to produce. But doing so would only leave us buried among other manufacturers, making it impossible to proudly say, “We’re different.”

So we chose the front-wide design. It was a decision that put the future of our company on the line.

The result was BUX, developed for native trout fishing. This series became the world’s first front-wide spoon.
