世界初、フロントワイド形状のスプーン「BUX」

2003年6月。新たな商品を開発するにあたって我々は大勝負を掛けた。スプーンの基本形状はおおまかに言えば3種類。「幅広・細身・への字」である。新カテゴリーの創造を目指すことなく、従来品の模倣を続けるのか。テールワイドの従来タイプなら冒険する必要もなく、ある意味安易に叩くことは可能だが、他メーカーの中に埋没し「ウチは違う！」と声高に叫ぶことは不可能になる。そして「フロントワイド」。社運を賭けた決断であった。そうして作り上げたのがネイティブ用BUX。世界初のフロントワイドスプーンがこのシリーズである。

BUX: The World’s First Front-Wide Spoon

In June 2003, we took a massive gamble on developing a brand-new product. Generally speaking, there are three basic shapes for fishing spoons: wide, slender, and banana-curved. The question was: should we just keep mimicking existing products without striving to create a whole new category? Making a conventional tail-wide spoon would have been a safe bet with zero risk—but it would have caused us to blend into the crowd, making it impossible to stand out and proudly yell, "Ours is different!"

So, we chose the "Front-Wide" design. It was a high-stakes decision where the very future of our company hung in the balance. The result of that fierce determination was the native-trout BUX series—the world's very first front-wide spoons.
