東洋エンタープライズの60周年を記念し、ヴィンテージ市場ではウルトラレアとされるステンシルが施されたスーベニアジャケットを復刻。当時、スカジャンと同様に横振り刺繍が施されたクッションカバーも米兵の土産物として好まれ、そのバリエーションとして刺繍とステンシルを組み合わせたものが存在する。しかし、ジャケットとして仕立てられたものは極めて珍しく、まさしくスペシャルな一着。


刺繍は1950年代中期の「タイガーヘッド」と呼ばれる絵柄で、白虎の顔の周りにはブルーのステンシルが噴かれ、黒い別珍から浮き出てくるかのような迫力。うねる鬣（たてがみ）は何度も針足を変えながら一本一本丁寧に描かれ、血走った瞳は赤い刺繍糸で強調されている。


リバーシブル面は、身頃よりも袖下の色が濃い「逆配色」。鮮やかなグリーンのボディに描かれるのは、翼を広げた鷲、そして立派な枝ぶりの松の木。盆栽などにも通じる、力強い樹形を鑑賞して愛でる日本の美が表現されている。当時も今も、職人の卓越した技術がなければ生み出せない圧巻の作品。

テーラー東洋のコレクションの中でも特に厳選した逸品をディテールにこだわり再現するのが、このスペシャルエディション。横振り刺繍で緻密に描かれた図案はもとより、アセテート生地の打ち込みを調整してヴィンテージと遜色なく仕上げ、ウールリブも旧式の横編み機を使用して1着ずつ編み上げている。


リバーシブル仕様のファスナーについても50年以上前のファスニング機械を再稼働させ、当時と同じ手曲げのものを再現。テーラー東洋の前身である港商（こうしょう）商会のラベルを使い、ヴィンテージスカジャンの最盛期を彷彿とさせる仕上がりとなっている。

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Toyo Enterprise, a truly special souvenir jacket has been reissued — featuring a stencil design considered ultra-rare in the vintage market.
In the postwar era, cushion covers embroidered in the same yokoburi (freehand machine embroidery) style as souvenir jackets were popular among U.S. soldiers as keepsakes. Among these, a few rare examples combined embroidery and stencil work — but jackets made in this style were extremely uncommon. This piece is, without question, one of those extraordinary treasures.

The embroidery depicts the mid-1950s “Tiger Head” motif. Around the white tiger’s face, blue stencil spray adds dramatic contrast, making the image seem to emerge from the deep black velveteen body. Each strand of the tiger’s swirling mane is meticulously rendered with multiple stitch variations, while its bloodshot eyes are accentuated in vivid red thread — a breathtaking display of craftsmanship and intensity.

The reversible side features an unusual “reverse color scheme,” with darker sleeves contrasting against a bright green body. An eagle with spread wings and a majestic pine tree — symbolic of strength and longevity — are embroidered in stunning detail. The graceful yet powerful composition captures the refined beauty of Japanese aesthetics, much like the appreciation of bonsai. Then and now, only the most skilled artisans could bring such a masterpiece to life.

“KOSHO & CO.” SPECIAL EDITION

The Special Edition series within the Tailor Toyo collection faithfully reproduces carefully selected vintage masterpieces with an uncompromising attention to detail. Beyond the intricate yokoburi embroidery, the acetate fabric density has been finely tuned to match vintage originals, while the wool ribs are individually knitted on old-style loopwheel machines.

Even the reversible zipper is reproduced using fastening machinery from over 50 years ago, recreating the same hand-bent construction as in the past. The jacket bears the original Kosho & Co. label — a name that preceded Tailor Toyo — evoking the golden age of vintage sukajan craftsmanship.
